  • Do not impersonate police, attorneys, employers, friends, delivery workers, or another person to get information.
  • Do not place trackers, hidden cameras, or recording devices on people, vehicles, homes, or property you do not lawfully control.
  • Do not hack, guess passwords, bypass security, or use spyware.

  • Do I own or control the account, device, footage, or location?
  • Do I have consent?
  • Is there a court order limiting contact or collection?
  • Am I trespassing or following someone?
  • Would I be comfortable explaining exactly how I got this evidence?
  • Could this put someone in danger?

Common Mistakes

  • Do not confuse "publicly visible" with "safe to use however I want."
